Hyatt’s purpose is to care for people so they can be their best. For our customers to continue to choose us as their brand of choice, we have to be in the right place first. That way, we can continue to provide extraordinary service, as we have been doing.

In fact, when we tell our new colleagues about the service they have at their disposal, it is met with great enthusiasm.

Ultimately, it is very important for us that our leaders accompany and support us throughout this process because they are a reference for all of us. I remember that when we presented this project to our general manager, Carlos Erburu, he supported us 100% and welcomed it enthusiastically.

ifeel has been very well received by our people, not only because of its psychological support but also for the numerous well-being tools it provides us with. This support has been very important and has given Hyatt employees a lot of security.
Our leaders were early adopters of this initiative because they understood that they were helping not only each individual as such, but also the overall management of the teams.

Surely, we all know the photograph of the Rockefeller Center construction workers sitting on top of scaffolding, having lunch, without any kind of safety device. That picture was taken about 90 years ago today. The evolution of health and safety has been remarkable, thanks to the commitment of top management from different companies. At Hyatt, without a doubt, a company that cares knows it has to invest in the safety and health of its employees for its business to make sense.

We have to take care of our employees; our employees have to feel safe, and there is no safety without mental health. ifeel is a fundamental tool for them to understand what Hyatt’s mission statement is for its employees.

How do you measure ifeel’s success at Hyatt? In what areas has ifeel had a positive impact??
We measure the success of ifeel’s implementation through the reports we receive, which are comprehensive and important for our day-to-day management. In addition, every four months, we conduct an employee experience survey with specific questions about how we care for our employees, professionally and personally. This index increases with each survey.
We have seen an improvement in the mental well-being of our people, more communication between teams, much more resilience, and staff feeling more acknowledged. This represents our aim to care for people so they can be the best versions of themselves.

After your experience, why do you think it is necessary to have tools that support mental health in large organisations like yours?
Companies’ productivity needs an engine, and that engine, in the 21st century, can only be mental health. Any large or small corporation is very clear about the balance. It has to understand the balance between productivity and health: the health of our employees.
